Determine Your MSME Category

The first step in registering your MSME online is to determine your category based on your investment and turnover. The Government of India has introduced the revised criteria for classifying MSMEs, which came into effect on July 1, 2020. The new classification is based on the composite criteria of both investment and turnover. The three categories of MSMEs are:

Micro-enterprises: Investment less than Rs. 1 crore and turnover less than Rs. 5 crore

Small enterprises: Investment less than Rs. 10 crore and turnover less than Rs. 50 crore

Medium enterprises: Investment less than Rs. 50 crore and turnover less than Rs. 250 crore

Register on Udyam Registration Portal

Once you have determined your category, the next step is to register on the Udyam Registration portal. The portal is an online platform introduced by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, for the registration of MSMEs. To register on the portal, you need to provide your Aadhaar number, PAN, and other basic details about your business. The registration process is free of cost, and there is no need to submit any documents.

Verify Your Details

After submitting your registration details, the portal will verify your Aadhaar and PAN details through the government’s KYC database. Once the verification is completed, your Udyam registration number will be generated, which will be sent to your registered email address.

Update Your Information

It is essential to keep your registration details updated to avail of the benefits offered by the government. You can update your information, such as the addition of new products or services, or increase in turnover, by logging in to the Udyam Registration portal.

Benefits of Online Registration of MSMEs

Online registration of MSMEs offers several benefits, such as:

  1. Access to Credit: Registered MSMEs can avail of several schemes launched by the government and financial institutions, such as loans at concessional rates, credit guarantees, and subsidies.
